Creating 3D Sketches In Solidworks

3D sketches can be very useful for certain commands in Solidworks. For example, if you use sweep along guide command in Solidworks, it can be very useful to use 3D sketching command to create required path in Solidworks. In here, we explain how to create 3D skecthes in Solidworks.

How To Create 3D Sketches In Solidworks?

Open 3D sketch in Solidworks.

To opne a 3D sketch in Solidworks, click on little ppo-up menu above then click on ‘3D Sketch’ command as shown by red arrow above.

Draw line segments in Solidworks 3D sketching.

You can directly start to create your 3D sketch geometries. For example, we entered Line command in Solidworks, after opening a 3D sketch as above then we started to draw line ay XY plane in drawing window as shown by red arrow above.

You can change the drawing plane by press ‘Tab’ button from your keyboard. For example, we drew the first section of our line at XY plane, then we pressed ‘Tab’ button to change the drawing plane to ZY. And we drew our second section of our line in Solidworks.

Click on little ‘Yes’ button to complete the 3D sketching in Solidworks.

You can use all the skecthing commands are avaliable for Solidworks as shown in green box. For example, we drew a circle with circle command on ZY plane as shown by green arrow above. You can also change the sketching plane by pressing ‘Tab’ button from your keyboard.
