Creating A Cylindrical Coordinate System In ANSYS® Mechanical(Illustrated Expression)

How To Create Cylindrical Coordinate Systems In ANSYS® Mechanical?

Click on ‘Coordinate System’ in ANSYS® Mechanical.

To create a cylindrical coordinate system in ANSYS® Mechanical, right-click on the ‘Coordinate Systems’ tab as shown by the green arrow above then hover your mouse on the ‘Insert’ tab and click on ‘Coordinate System’ as shown in the green box above.

Select the type of Cylindrical in ANSYS® Mechanical.

In the ‘Definition’ tab, select the Cylindrical type as shown by the green arrow to create a cylindrical coordinate system in ANSYS® Mechanical.

Select the place of the new cylindrical coordinate system in ANSYS® Mechanical.

Select where do you want to define your new cylindrical coordinate system as shown in the green box above. Then click the ‘Apply’ button as shown by the green arrow.

Select the Principal Axis for the cylindrical coordinate system.

In the ‘Principal Axis’ tab, select an axis as shown by the green arrow above, and select a ‘Define By’ value such as Global X-Axis, Global Y-Axis, etc. from the pop-up menu. The selected new cylindrical coordinate system’s axis will be defined in the same direction with the selected ‘Define By’ value as shown by green and red arrows above.

Select Orientation About Principal Axis of the new cylindrical coordinate system.

The same logic is valid for Orientation About Principal Axis section that axis is selected as X and the ‘Define By’ value is selected by the Global Y-Axis as shown by red and green arrows above.

You can select ‘Define By’ as ‘Geometry Selection’.

Also, you can defşne your axes according to geometric features in ANSYS® Mechanical. Select the ‘Define By’ section as Geometry Selection then select the new cylindrical coordinate system’s axis and the geometric feature that the axis will be oriented according to that.

For example, we oriented the Z-axis as shown by the green arrow, with a selected edge as shown by the red arrow above.

The same logic is again valid for the ‘Orientation About Principal Axis’ section in ANSYS® Mechanical.
