Creating And Working With Sub-Assemblies In Solidworks

Sub-assemblies in Solidworks assembly environment can be very useful and sometimes, very vital. If you have a very complex mechanism or projects that has minor mechanisms inside it, you can add these minor mechanisms inside main assembly, as sub-assemblies. In here, we explain how to create sub-assemblies in Solidworks assembly.

How To Create Sub-Assemblies In Solidworks Assemblies?

Click on ‘New Assembly’ in Solidworks.

The first way to create sub-assemblies in Solidworks is like above. The main assembly is shown by blue arrow above. All the assembly that you want to create will be this. If you want to add an sub-assembly inside this main assembly, click on drop-down menu below ‘Insert Components’, then click on ‘New Assembly’ as shown in blue box.

As you see above, a new assembly is created beneath the main assembly. You can create a sub-assembly inside this by adding parts and assemblying them. Then you can assemble this sub-assembly with main assembly components in Solidworks assembly environment.

Also you can add assembly parts that has extension of .sldassm into main assembly just like adding ordinary parts, to create sub-assembly in Solidworks.

So obtaining sub-assemblies in Solidworks assembly environment is very easy and useful as you see above. Working with sub-assemblies will be more efficient than creating directly a main assembly of complex assemblies from its parts.
