Creating Blocks From 2D Objects In AutoCAD

Blocks can be very useful when you need to use a standard part multiple times in Autocad drawing. You can create blocks from 2D features, and you can use them in multiple times without the need of drawing them again and again. In here, we will explain how to create blocks in Autocad effectively with a very basic example below.

How To Create Blocks In AutoCAD?

Click on ‘Create’ in ‘Block’ menu in Autocad.

For example, we want to create a block from 2D drawing as shown by red arrow above in Autocad. To do it, click on ‘Create’ button as shown by green arrow in ‘Block’ menu.

Define the required parameters.

When you click on ‘Create’ button, there will be a screen appeared as above. From this screen, you can define your block parameters.

Enter the name of block as shown by blue arrow above. With ‘Pick Point’ button as shown in green box, you can select the insertion point of your block.

Select the insertion point.

For example, we clicked on center point of circle to select as insertion point.

Then click on ‘Select Objects’ button as shown in red box to select block objects like below.

Select the block objects.

Select the required block objects like above then right click to turn into ‘Block Definition’ screen.

You can select the block’s unit as shown by red arrow in screen. Then you can enter a description for this block structure.

Click on ‘OK’ button to create your block.

Insert your block.

As you see above, you can place your block from ‘Insert’ section as shown by blue arrow above in Autocad. Placing of created block is done with its insertion point as shown by red arrow above.
