How To Adjust Deformation Scales In ANSYS® Mechanical?
First of all, you need to have a solved model as above in ANSYS® Mechanical. After that, you can adjust the deformation options in ANSYS® Mechanical.
As you see above, there is great deformation displayed in ANSYS®. In the actual stage, there could not be deformation like that. This display of deformation is because of deformation illustration options that are shown in the green box above.
These deformation options are;
- 0.0(Undeformed): If you choose this option, the stress and deformation rates will be shown but there is no deformation will be illustrated.
- 1.0(True Scale): If you want to see the actual deformation of your model, you need to select this option.
- 0.5xAuto: This is half of the Auto Scale deformation option. There is an 1xAuto, 2xAuto and 5xAuto options.
It will be more healthy to select the scale deformation as program-controlled. The program will select the deformation scale according to the analysis type and material situation.
When you are working with Modal Analysis in ANSYS® Mechanical, it will be better to adjust Auto Scale to see unreal deformations. Because in Modal Analysis, deformations that are displayed, are not the real deformations.

In Random Vibration analysis, Harmonic Response and Response Spectrum, Mechanical adjusts the deformation as zero.
