Drawing Polygons In Solidworks(Illustrated Expression)

Polygons are frequently used 2D geometric figures to obtain 3D geometries in Solidworks. So drawing polygons in Solidworks is very easy process. In this article we will show you how to draw polygons in Solidworks with Polygon 2D sketching command.

How To Draw Polygons In Solidworks?

Click on Polygon command in Solidworks.

To draw Polygons in Solidworks, click on the Polygon commann as shown by red arrow above in Solidworks.

Select a proper plane or surface for Polygon.

After entering to the Polygon command in Solidworks, select a proper plane or feature surface to draw a polygon.

Enter the required parameters to draw a polygon in Solidworks.

After entering into the Polygon command in Solidworks, specify the number of sides of the polygon as shown in red box above. Also you can enter the centerpoint  location of the Polygon that you will draw, and the radius of the polygon arc and the orientation angle from the green box above.

Specify the center point of polygon in Solidworks.

You can specify the center of the polygon first as shown by green arrow above then the click to specify the size and the orientation of the polygon as shown by red arrow above in Solidworks.

There are two modes of polygon drawing in Solidworks.

Inscribed circle: You can draw the polygon with the help of a circle that tangent to the sides of the polygon. The example of this polygon technique is like above.

Select Circumscribed Circle option as shown by red arrow.

Circumscribed circle: You can draw the polygon by selecting this drawing option as shown by red arrow above. The polygon is drawn with the help of a circle that tangent to the edges of the polygon.

Specify the centerpoint of the circumscribed polygon in Solidworks.

After the selection of Circumscribed circle option to draw polygon in Solidworks, specify the centerpoint of the polygon as shown by red arrow above. Then specify the orientation and the size of the polygon as shown by green arrow above.

Select the For Construction option for drawn polygon in Solidworks.

You can make the drawn polygon as intermitetent basis as shown in green box above by selecting the ‘For Construction’ option as shown by green arrow above in Solidworks.

So it is very easy to draw polygons in Solidworks with Polygon command.
