How To Add A Displacement Value To A Part In ANSYS

In this article, we will show you how to add displacement values to various features of a geometry that opened in ANSYS® Mechanical. Displacement values are generally used for calculating the stress values at the defined displacement or deformation of the part. So it is a very important tool of ANSYS® to see the reverse results of applied stresses deformation values. The displacement value is a boundary condition of the finite element analysis. So defining the displacement values correctly is very important.

So you will learn how to define displacement values to parts correctly in ANSYS® Mechanical.

How To Define Displacement In ANSYS® Mechanical?(Illustrated Expression)

Consider we want to deform the above part from the top of its face. So we need to assign a displacement value to do it.

To apply displacement to a part in ANSYS® Mechanical, right-click on the analysis system(Static Structural in here). Then hover your mouse cursor on the Insert tab as shown by the red arrow above and click on the Displacement as shown by the red box above.

We selected our face. After selecting the whole geometric features that you want to apply displacements, click on the Apply button in the Geometry section as shown by the red arrow above.

To define displacement, we need to enter the X, Y, and Z components of displacement as shown by the red box above. Also, we could enter one displacement if we select Normal To from Define By section in ANSYS® Mechanical.

So we entered 5, 10, and 15 m values of displacements as shown by the red box. Also, you can see the result of the displacement value. After that point, we can solve the analysis according to the displacement values that entered in ANSYS® Mechanical.

Conclusion

Applying displacements to parts surfaces, edges, etc. is very easy as you can see in ANSYS® Mechanical.
