Once all the parts of a complex assembly are designed in Solidworks CAD environment, you can assemble these designed parts to obtain complex mechanisms. To do it, you need to open all the parts in assembly environment of Solidworks. In here, we will explain how to open an assembly environment in Solidworks.
Opening Assembly Environment In Solidworks

If you are in an active Solidworks design like above, you can open an assembly environment. To do this, click on dropdown menu as shown by red arrow above then click on ‘Make Assembly from Part/Assembly’ as shown in red box above.

In this option, it will ask you to save this part and insert it to assembly. If you click on ‘Yes’, the part that you designed in CAD environment of Solidworks will be saved, and will be inserted in assembly.

If you opened Solidworks in your computer, click on white page symbol as shown by red arrow above. Then click on ‘Assembly’ option as shown in red box above. Then click on ‘OK’ button to open an assembly environment in Solidworks.

As you see above, the assembly environment is like above in Solidworks. Files that are saved from assembly environment will be saved in the extension of .sldassm.
