Trimming Objects In AutoCAD(Illustrated Expression)

Generally in all CAD programs, there is a trimming command in 2D sketching. With trimming, you can trim out the unwanted excessive parts of 2D features. Autocad has also a triming command and its features to use in trimming of features. In this article, trimming in the Autocad 2D is explained with a very basic example.

How To Trim Features Inside Autocad 2D?

Click on ‘Trim’ command in Autocad.

For example, we want to trim out unwanted extensions of lines out of circle above. We can do this stuff in Autocad with ‘Trim’ command. So click on ‘Trim’ command in Autocad as shown by red arrow above.

Trim the required features in Autocad.

After entering into the ‘Trim’ command in Autocad, click to select the boundry object as shown by green arrow above. Then right click on drawing window to complete boundry selection. After that click to trim the unwanted features according to the selected boundry object as shown by red arrow above in Autocad.

Shortcut to make trimming in Autocad.

There is a very useful shortcut to trim features in Autocad. What you need to do is;

  • Directly type ‘tr’ from your keyboard without entering any command.
  • Press ‘Enter’ button from your keyboard two times.
  • Then select the features to bi trimmed out. Features will be trimmed up nearest intersectioning object.
