Use Of Offset Command In AutoCAD Sketching(Illustrated Expression)

Offset is a very useful command in Autocad to create same feature from selected objects in a specified distance by the user. In this article we will explain how to use ‘Offset’ command in Autocad with all the features of ‘Offset’ with a very basic example below.

How To Use ‘Offset’ Command In Autocad?

Click to open ‘Offset’ command in Autocad.

For example we eant to offset the edges of given rectangle in Autocad above. To do this, click on ‘Offset’ command as shown by red arrow above. Or you can type ‘OF’ from your keyboard then press ‘Enter’ to open the ‘Offset’ command.

Select to offset features in Autocad.

After entering into the ‘Offset’ command in Autocad, specify a distance value from the section as shown by red arrow above, then press ‘Enter’ to start offset operation. As you can see with green arrow, when you select the edges, you can create offset features according to the direction of your cursor.

Click on ‘Erase’ option in ‘Offset’ command.

After entering into the ‘Offset’ command, you can select ‘Erase’ option as shown by red arrow above. There will be two options that you need to seelct after clicking in ‘Erase’ option; Yes or No. If you select ‘Yes’, the selected original feature to offset will be deleted like above example. If you select ‘No’, the original feature is not be deleted.

Source object is not deleted with ‘Offset’ command.

For example we selected ‘No’ selection, the original feature to be offset is not deleted as shown by red arrow above in ‘Offset’ command.

Press ‘Enter’ to complete the offset operation in Autocad.
